Anton Bakarski was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in April 1971. With a keen interest in imagery and cinema, he began taking photographs and shooting his first Super 8 amateur movies at the age of 13. In 1989 he graduated from the Sofia High School of Electronics with a degree in Computer Engineering. Then, after two successful years of study in Nuclear Physics and Energy at the Technical University of Sofia he decides to go back to what he really wants to do: Cinema. In 1991 he began to study Cinematography at Bulgarian Academy of Theatre and Film Arts, Sofia.
After completing a MA degree in Cinematography in 1996, he started working at various positions in the Camera department. This gives him the opportunity to experience the filmmaking process from a variety of perspectives: video assist operator, clapper/loader, 2nd camera assistant and camera operator.
As a cameraman he has worked in films for directors as Peter Weir, Simon West, Rob Cohen and DOPs such as Kees Van Oostrum, Russell Boyd, Shelly Johnson, Simon Duggan, Thomas Kloss, Ed Wild, Ben Nott and others. The films he has worked in include such as The Expendables 2, The Expendables 3, 300: Rise of an Empire, Conan the Barbarian, Bullet Head, The Way Back, etc.
With hundreds of credits and more than 20 years of experience, Anton has shot both on film and digital. He is working as DOP for features, documentaries, commercials and TV series in a variety of genres. Internationally he has shot in the US, Russia, Germany, Italy, China, Morocco, Qatar, Romania and other places worldwide. He can masterfully handle any project, from big scale studio picture to tight budget independent film. His films have screened and awarded at many International film festivals, such as Cannes, Sundance, Karlovy Vary, Shanghai and Los Angeles, etc. He is an active member of the Bulgarian Association of Cinematographers (BAC).
